Break Summary

Active fellows can work with us up to 12 months (or until they’re placed or withdrawn). Life happens, and if a fellow doesn’t have time for their job search/the program but doesn’t want to withdraw entirely, we may allow them to go on a break. Situations where we might grant a request for a break include:

  • A fellow has a <90 days contract to gain more experience and wants to return after that to refocus on the job search
  • A fellow is going through a personal crisis/challenge
  • A fellow is going on a vacation/trip with their family and wants to take a break from the week-to-week responsibilities to enjoy their time off

No matter the case, the fellow must provide the start/end date of the break, as the length of time they are on break pushes out their Pathrise end date proportionally.

For example:

  • Original Pathrise End date: 11/1/2023
  • Length of break: 30 days
  • New Pathrise End date: 12/1/2023

Step by step

Step 1: Communicate break information and conditions with your fellow

Let your Fellow know that they’re able to take a Break or a series of breaks totaling up to 90 days in length and that the amount of time they take will push out their end date proportionally.

Step 2: Document break info in the platform

Make note of that conversation in their Platform notes - be sure to include the reason for the break and the length.

Step 3: Head to the Submit Ticket link and choose the correct dropdown:

Break FAQ

Q: How long can a fellow take a break?

A: Up to 90 days without special permission or more than 90 days with permission from your Career Leadership (let CXOps know that you have permission!)

Q: What happens to a fellow's End Date when they take a break?

A: Their end date increases proportionally; i.e. if they take a two week break, their end date is pushed out two weeks

Q: Do fellows get notified that their end date is being pushed out?

A: Yes, they receive an email called "Confirming your break from the Pathrise Program"

Q: Do I have to do anything to remove my fellow from a break?

A: As long as they're not ending their Break earlier than planned, CXOps will get a notification to remove them from their break. If they're ending it early, you can submit an End Break Early request using the same Submit Ticket link

Q: What should I do if my fellow wants to extend their break?

A: Please submit a new Break Ticket
